The Hyundai Palisade (현대 팰리세이드 in Korean) keeps its name in both Korea and the US, but the two lineups are built differently. The engines, the seat counts and part of the trim list all change between markets.
This guide compares the 2027 Palisade sold in Korea with the 2027 Palisade sold in the US. It covers powertrains, seating, the Korean-market High Roof, trims, prices and official fuel economy.
The short answer
- Engines: Korea gets a 2.5 turbo gas engine or a 2.5 turbo hybrid. The US gets a 3.5 six-cylinder or a 2.5 turbo hybrid. There’s no 3.5 in Hyundai Korea’s price lists.
- Seats: 7 or 9 in Korea, with a front center seat on the 9-seater. Hyundai USA lists 7 or 8.
- Korean-market version: the High Roof (하이루프), with a raised roof and a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen. It isn’t among the 2027 US trims.
- XRT trims: Korea has an XRT, the US an XRT PRO. Both are gas only.
- Price in Korea: from ₩44,780,000 for the 2.5 turbo Exclusive 9-seater.
How we checked
Korean prices, equipment and seating come from Hyundai Korea’s Palisade and Palisade Hybrid price pages, both dated October 1, 2026. Korean fuel economy comes from Hyundai’s 2027 Palisade price list. Korean power figures come from Hyundai’s January 2025 launch release.
US trims, prices, seating, specs and EPA estimates come from Hyundai USA’s 2027 Palisade and 2027 Palisade Hybrid spec pages. The bus lane rule comes from Korea’s Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree. We didn’t use dealer sites, reviews or forums, and we mark our own conversions.
Engines: 2.5 turbo and hybrid vs 3.5 six-cylinder
Hyundai Korea gives power in PS and torque in kgf·m. Hyundai USA gives hp and lb-ft. The figures in parentheses are our conversions.
| Korea | US (2027 Palisade) | |
|---|---|---|
| Gas engine | 2.5 turbo, 281 PS (277 hp), 43.0 kgf·m (311 lb-ft) | 3.5 six-cylinder, 287 hp, 260 lb-ft |
| Hybrid | 2.5 turbo hybrid, 334 PS (329 hp) system output | 2.5 turbo hybrid, 329 hp and 339 lb-ft combined |
| Transmissions | 8-speed automatic (gas), 6-speed automatic (hybrid) | 8-speed automatic (gas), 6-speed automatic (hybrid) |
| Drive | 2WD standard, HTRAC AWD optional | FWD standard, HTRAC AWD available (XRT PRO is AWD only) |
The Korean power figures come from Hyundai’s January 2025 launch release for the current Palisade. We didn’t find them on the 2027 price pages we used. The hybrid’s system output lines up with the US figure once converted.
The real split is the gas engine. A Korean gas Palisade has a 2.5 turbo, while a US gas Palisade has a 3.5 six-cylinder. We didn’t find an explanation from Hyundai, so we won’t guess at one.
7 seats or 9: how the Korean layouts work
Korea offers the Palisade as a 7-seater or a 9-seater at every gas trim. According to Hyundai Korea’s price pages, the 7-seater has two individual second-row seats and a 60:40 split third row.
The 9-seater gets there with a front center seat (1열 센터시트), plus 60:40 split second and third rows. Hyundai’s notes add that the center seats in all three rows have no heating or ventilation.
Hyundai USA lists the 2027 Palisade with 7 or 8 seats. The SE is an 8-seater, while the SEL, SEL Premium and Limited come with 7 and an 8-seat option. The gas XRT PRO and Calligraphy are listed with 7. Nine seats isn’t an option on any 2027 US trim.
Why the 9-seater matters on Korean expressways
Korea’s expressway bus lanes are open to passenger cars with 9 or more seats, but only with at least six people on board. That comes from Appended Table 1 of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree.
A 9-seat Palisade can qualify, and a 7-seat Palisade can’t, however full it is. Our Hyundai Staria guide explains the rule in more detail. The same logic applies to the 9-seat Kia Carnival in our Kia Carnival guide.
The Palisade High Roof
The High Roof (하이루프) sits at the top of Hyundai Korea’s lineup. Its price list entry includes a raised roof, a “starry sky” interior design (스태리 스카이), a 21.4-inch rear-seat entertainment screen and a preview electronically controlled suspension.
It comes with the gas engine or the hybrid, as a 7- or 9-seater. Hyundai’s fuel economy table lists AWD versions only for now, with a note that 2WD figures will follow after government filing.
Hyundai USA’s 2027 trim lists for the gas Palisade and the Palisade Hybrid don’t include a high-roof version. Within the two markets we checked, the High Roof is a Korean-market Palisade. Hyundai Korea doesn’t list a height for it on the pages we used, so we haven’t given one.
Trims: XRT vs XRT PRO, and Black Ink in both
The two lineups share some names and not others. Korea’s gas trims are Exclusive, H-Pick, Calligraphy, Black Ink, XRT and High Roof. The Korean hybrid drops the XRT.
The US gas lineup is SE, SEL, SEL Premium, Limited, XRT PRO and Calligraphy. The US Palisade Hybrid comes as SEL, SEL Premium, Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Black Ink.
So the XRT name appears as the XRT in Korea and the XRT PRO in the US. Hyundai USA lists the XRT PRO as AWD only, with 8.4 in of ground clearance against 7.4 in for the Limited and Calligraphy. Black Ink appears in both markets, as a gas or hybrid trim in Korea and as the Calligraphy Black Ink hybrid in the US.
2027 Palisade prices in Korea
These are Hyundai Korea’s 2.5 turbo gas prices dated October 1, 2026. Options such as HTRAC AWD (₩2,280,000 on a 9-seater, ₩2,400,000 on a 7-seater) are extra.
| Trim | 9-seat | 7-seat |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusive | ₩44,780,000 | ₩46,100,000 |
| H-Pick | ₩50,400,000 | ₩52,030,000 |
| XRT | ₩52,110,000 | ₩53,820,000 |
| Calligraphy | ₩56,060,000 | ₩58,070,000 |
| Black Ink | ₩57,670,000 | ₩59,770,000 |
| High Roof | ₩72,440,000 | ₩75,300,000 |
By our subtraction, the hybrid costs about ₩6 million more on the 9-seat trims. On a 9-seater, the hybrid Exclusive is ₩50,770,000 and the hybrid High Roof ₩78,440,000. For the 7-seat hybrid Exclusive, Hyundai shows ₩52,400,000 before a tax benefit and ₩51,400,000 after it.
Prices can change, so get a quote rather than relying on these figures. We haven’t converted them to dollars, since exchange rates and taxes differ. For reference, Hyundai USA lists starting MSRPs from $39,735 for the gas SE and $44,560 for the SEL Hybrid.
Official fuel economy in Korea
Hyundai’s 2027 price list gives government-reported fuel economy (정부 신고 연비) in km/L for each drive type and wheel size. These are a few examples from the full table, without the optional built-in dash cam.
| Version | Combined, km/L | City / highway, km/L | Combined, US mpg (our conversion) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5 turbo gas, 2WD, 18-inch | 9.7 | 8.5 / 11.6 | 22.8 |
| 2.5 turbo gas, High Roof AWD, 21-inch | 8.0 | 7.0 / 9.4 | 18.8 |
| Hybrid, 2WD, 18-inch | 14.1 | 14.5 / 13.6 | 33.2 |
| Hybrid, High Roof AWD, 21-inch | 11.2 | 11.2 / 11.2 | 26.3 |
Bigger wheels and AWD lower the figures. For the 2.5 turbo gas, AWD versions in the table run from 8.7 km/L down to 8.0 km/L, depending on seats and wheel size.
Hyundai USA lists EPA estimates of 22 mpg combined for the FWD six-cylinder and 34 mpg combined for the FWD SEL Hybrid. The Korean figures are government-reported Korean ratings, not EPA estimates, so don’t compare them directly. Our guide to gas stations in Korea covers fuel types and prices.
Renting, buying or owning a Palisade in Korea
Renting. Rental companies often set their own age and license rules on top of the legal minimums. Our guide to car rental in Korea for foreigners separates what the law requires from what rental companies add.
Buying used. Korean listings may state 7인승 or 9인승 (7-seat or 9-seat) and whether the car is a 하이브리드 (hybrid). Our step-by-step guide to buying a used car in Korea as a foreigner covers the paperwork.
Car tax. Korea’s annual car tax is based on engine size, and both Korean Palisade powertrains use a 2,497 cc engine. Our guide to car tax in Korea for foreigners has an estimator for the yearly tax.
If you know other Hyundai or Kia models only by their US or UK names, our Hyundai and Kia name lookup table lets you find the Korean name.
