Korea Car Life is an English-language guide to cars in Korea: the models Korea builds, what it takes to drive here, and what it takes to own a car as a foreigner.
Most reliable car information in Korea is published in Korean, on manufacturer sites, government portals and local forums. What circulates in English is often outdated, secondhand or guessed. We try to close that gap.
We cover three areas:
- Korean car models: what Hyundai and Kia call their cars at home, which models never leave Korea, and how the Korean versions differ.
- Driving in Korea: rentals, international driving permits, tolls, traffic rules and EV charging for visitors.
- Owning a car in Korea: license conversion, buying a used car, insurance, car taxes, registration and inspections for residents.
Every name, number and rule is checked against official sources such as manufacturer websites, owner’s manual portals, Korean government agencies and the text of the regulations. Each guide shows when it was last checked, and when we can’t confirm something, we leave it out or say so.
Some guides include a small calculator or checker, such as a traffic fine estimator or a yearly car tax estimator. These tools run in your browser, use the same official figures as the guide they sit in, and give estimates, not official decisions.
